The Ghost of Barrow Downs

Cloaked in the shadows
He walks with the night
Dancing with stars
Under flowing moonlight
Pitch black surrounded
Mystery lies within
Who could he be
Foe or a friend?

Winter wind blowing
Cold biting chill
Under cover of the shadows
It's even colder still
He wraps his arms around you
Embraced in icy death
Shadow wraith consumes you
Inhaled the killing breath

You wake within a barrow
Naked and alone
Cold steel set beside you
Blade astride the stone
A veiled figure approaches
Gray tattered gown
Spirit of the kings of old
The ghost of Barrow-downs

Screaming in the silence
But lips utter no sound
For sound cannot carry
Within the barrow mound

It's hand touches your shoulder
You're frozen to the bone
Death creeping closer
You fear you are alone
Shallower becomes your breathing
Life draining away
The wraith consumes you
And in the barrow you'll stay

But then a flicker of light
A torch-flame breaks the spell
Tom's come to save you
Merry ol' Bombadill
The wraith cowers back
He's no match for this foe
Banished to from whence he came
And no more fear to show

Slowly you stagger awake
Tom Bombadill has saved the day
Released from your torment
And he'll set you on your way

So after a brief rest
To Bree you must travel
The Ring still has far to go
And many mysteries will unravel
